Starmania "Made in Quebec" 1980

While the second production of Starmania is close in time to the original, it is very different. The cast was entirely Quebecois. The characters of "Gourou Marabout" and "La Speakerine" were dropped, but the Extra-terrestrial made his entrance.

Most of the performers are well-known or promising Quebec artists. Martine St-Clair, unknown to the public, is the youngest of the lot, making her debut at the age of 17. Luc Plamondon invited her to audition after she had attended the finals of a competition, which she won by singing songs from Marie-Jeanne, the character she dreamed of playing. However, the already-renowned Louise Forestier, having heard that a new production was in the works, didn't hesitate to knock on Plamondon's door and convince him to offer her the role of Marie-Jeanne. Martine took on the Cristal role, which she successfully made her own, so much so that she was offered the part again for the 1988 Paris revival.

In this production, Richard Groulx played the role of a Black Star (l'Étoile Noire).

On the photo you can see the main cast (left to right): Gilles Valiquette (Roger-Roger) Martine St-Clair (Cristal), Louise Forestier (Marie Jeanne), Michel McClean (Zéro Janvier), Jacques Blais (Ziggy), Sylvie Boucher (Sadia), France Castel (Stella Spotlight) and Robert Leroux (Johnny Rockfort).

In 1981, the album Starmania Made in Québec won two Félix awards (Gala de l'ADISQ) for the "Album of the Year - Rock" and "Show of the Year - Music and Songs" categories.
